The First-fruits of the Synod

I wrote to y’all a few weeks ago about our Synod, and let me tell you: it did not disappoint! Bishop Burns called the Synod to consult the Faithful (that’s all of us) on the direction of the Diocese in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic and how to make our local Church thrive. I saw in the Synod Resolutions the fruit of several months of attentive listening to the Faithful through sessions on various topics, which were open to the public, and in the Synod Assembly a group of passionate disciples of Christ who are eager to spread the Gospel. 

After the conclusion of the Synod, on December 6th, Bishop Burns issued a Letter to the Faithful, which you may have received via email. (If not, you can find this on the diocesan website, www.dallascatholic.org.) In his Letter, Bishop indicates some of the desires expressed during they Synod process: “As I listened and welcomed the interventions from the floor of the Synod, I was pleased to hear how they highlighted priestly Vocations as a priority, along with the sacredness of life, establishing a safe environment, and recognizing that the Diocese of Dallas is growing.” He also mentions the need for a clear and intentional Catholic identity in the face of ideologies, and greater accompaniment of the Faithful during moments of difficulty, as well moments of joy.
