Share Your TestimonialHi, my name is Jim Treadway. You may know me as the Cantor. My family and I have been members of St. Elizabeth for 46 years. We’ve raised our kids here, been active as altar servers, extraordinary ministers, and musicians. Our children attended school at St.Elizabeth and Bishop Dunne, and 2 of them were married in our church. We give our time, talents, and money because it’s our home and St. Elizabeth has always been there for us and others like us, and we want to ensure it’s there for those who come after us.
After being born and raised in the church, I left the church for many years only to return about 11 years ago. When I first returned, I found myself to be physically at mass but not mentally. After a co-worker asked me a question about Catholicism that I could not answer, I decided if I plan to call myself Catholic, I should learn more about my religion. I started by volunteering at St. Elizabeth for RCIA and soon learned more than I had ever known. This journey led me to join and volunteer with many other groups. I have never felt more part of a family and community like I do now.
My relationship with St. Elizabeth began when I was Baptized here as a baby. I was blessed to receive other sacraments here too and my children as they came along. I must admit my relationship over the years has been on and off, until a few years ago when I figured out God is THE most important relationship. So, now I give my time, talents, and treasure to St. Elizabeth because I’m called to give and it’s a way to serve God … and the parish that has given so much to me and my family my entire life.
My husband and I have been parishioners at St. Elizabeth for about 19 years. Growing up, my parents set a great example for my siblings and myself being involved in the church. This is something I wanted to do for my children as well. My service began as a Lector. I then became a member of the Altar Guild and saw the important work they do. Last year, I also became a member of the Guadalupanas, who have also been very active. My service for the church has led me to become the Funeral Coordinator & Liturgy Assistant. My family and I are blessed to be part of a wonderful parish and community.
In 1972, my family and I joined St Elizabeth as members. My daughter and son were baptized here, and both received their education at St. E and Bishop Dunne schools. From the time I joined St. E, I was called on to be an usher, for which, I have been an usher for over 50 years. I am presently the lead usher for the twelve noon mass. I am also a member of the Stewardship committee. I give my time, talents and offerings to St. E, because like in my personal home, our church home has its needs as well. This parish has given so much to me and my family through the years for which I am grateful.
My husband Hayden and I have been parishioners for 3 years at St. Elizabeth's. As a Louisiana transplant and newcomers to Oak Cliff, we were searching for a faith community. We were blessed to find that at St.Elizabeth. Every person we have met has simply pointed to Christ. Whether it is at Youth Ministry, OCIA, Young Married Couples, or simply in the back of Mass wrestling our 18 month old, Joe - every member of the parish has exhibited kindness. We are honored to attend Mass and be a part of the diverse tapestry that is St. Elizabeth of Hungary.
My wife and I have been parishioners at St. Elizabeth since 1974. We loved this parish because of the way we were accepted by the parishioners when we first attended Mass. This made us want to get involved in ministries at St. Elizabeth. We taught Baptism classes for over 25 years. I have served the parish in many positions in both the school and church. Some are: The Men’s Club, Boy Scouts, Knights of Columbus, Choir, Gabriel Angel and many others. All five of our children attended St. Elizabeth School. Three attended Bishop Dunne.
I came to St. Elizabeth in 1966. I was one of the parishioner women who did the needlepoint behind the Crucifix. My husband, RIP, was a member of the KofC. We worked all the school carnivals. I taught Sunday School. We were a presenting team couple for Marriage Encounter. I worked in the kitchen for Vacation Bible School. I assisted with funerals placing the Pall on the casket and helping the family with any needs. I am currently a member of the Altar Guild and the Guadalupanas.
